July 2010
I am a true procrastinator when it comes to “homework”. Any kind of writing is homework in my book. I am not into Face Book, twitter or any kind of blogging for that matter. If it weren’t for my wonderful Mother-in-law, I would never get this site updated! With that being said, “thank you Margaret” for encouraging me to update our site!
I know I always say this but it is true, Robin and I have been so blessed in our business. We are so thankful for our clients and the fact that they chose us to assist them in accomplishing their goals.
It has been a year of new beginnings for us. We have found ourselves stepping back to basics in many ways as we have several new horse/rider combinations as well as a herd of young, green horses. It is always fun to start the year with new teams, however we tend to forget how much work it can be.
One of our newest horse and rider combinations is Darlene Schwab from Alberta Canada and her horse Lenny. They have started off with a bang! By that I mean at the Texas Amateur Show in Waco they were the High Point Novice Amateur PLUS they won the circuit in the Select Trail and the Novice Amateur Horsemanship! I don’t think you could have seen anyone happier at that horse show than her. Also, Mandi finished qualifying Lenny in the Senior Trail for the AQHA World Show at that horse show as well.
Have I mentioned that our selects Rock? We have such a cool group of people! Ronnie and Vickie Kent Were getting their names called in the classes they show in with their two new young ones. Julia Dreyer and Sid were consistently 2nd and 3rd in the showmanship and horsemanship…I think they might have even big a big winner in the performance geldings! Be on the look out for our Newest Select Kim Allen and her gelding Diesel. They are going to be a team to recon with! After the Waco show they went back home to Ontario and they have been winning the open trails up there!
Leena Volmer and Mandi were super stars in the hunter under saddle on Izzy Got it! Mandi was Reserve Circuit Champion in the Jr. Hunter Under Saddle and Leena won the amateur circuit. Both ladies are qualified on “Bosco” for the AQHA World show.
With all these big circuit winners we also had class winners. Mayers Lindley and “Slick” were first and second in the youth horsemanship on her mom, Ruth’s birthday. That was pretty exciting! I don’t think Ruth could have been more pleased about her surprise birthday gift! Little Miss Kendall Dreyer and her horse Taco were just getting started for the year at that show and they were placing consistently in everything they went in.
This show is always good for us but extremely busy! We could not make everything work without the awesome help from all of our clients. Robin is so busy at this show not because of all the clients we take but that he is on the board for the Classic. Things were a little crazy but we made it work. A special thank you to Katie Lisabeth and Frank Dillahunty for all the “extras” they helped with!

We had much success in the Champion of Champions. Shelly Diggans and “Garfield” tied for first in the Trail. After the tiebreaker they came out Reserve Champion, which was quite exciting! Angela Dillahunty and Darlene Schwab swept up the Horsemanship with a Reserve Championship and third place finish.
I think we have more amateur clients than we do youth at this time. Beckie Peskin and Rocked on the Rail were consistently getting their name called in the showmanship and horsemanship. Tiina Volmer and “Frog” excelled in the equitation and horsemanship and Tom Clopp with KC were getting in there in the horsemanship. Tom and KC are on their way to Harlensburg and some other northern Pennsylvania shows this summer.
Ashley Aikman and Zips Hidden Resource smoked the first day of the horsemanship by winning both cards in the amateur. They finished qualifying in the horsemanship at this show for the AQHA World Show.
Our 13 & Under, Clay Arrington and his horse Appraised Venture, also known as Spanky were super stars! They were the Reserve All-Around Youth, Circuit Champion in the 13 & under Showmanship and Circuit Champion in the Novice Trail! Being only 10 years old, Clay has focus and dedication and it is really paying off! He is also showing his Grandmother’s (Vickie Kent) horse RV Won Good Version, better known as Vern, in the Youth Performance Geldings. Not only are the qualified for the Youth World but they won the circuit at the Texas Classic! Needless to say after all his big wins, Clay wasn’t to excited to catch his plane to go back to school. He wanted to stay at the horse show! Can anyone blame him?
I was really proud of our 14-18 group. Liz Willsey and her gray horse, Bart made the most headway at this show. She rode well, showed confidently and placed in every event she shows in. Woo Hoo for Liz! Mayers Lindley and her horse, Slick are improving more and more every horse show. Look for more updates on them at the shows in Georgia.
Then there is Little Miss Parris Rice. She and her horse Javahmon are on fire! Not only were they the High Point English Horse but she rocked the western events as well! Not too many 17-hand horses can do it all like he does! Parris and her horse are currently 2nd in the Nation in Hunt Seat Equitation and 3rd in the Western Horsemanship; quite an accomplishment for this 16 year-old girl. Between the Texas Classic and Redbud Parris and her horse achieved 50.5 Horsemanship points, 38 Equitation points and 30 showmanship points. Congratulations to the both of them!
Both of these were great shows! A beautiful facility with great numbers and the weather was nice! What more can one ask for? I have to brag on my husband at this show. He flew in from judging Harlensburg, Pennsylvania with Bruce Walquist. Lessoned and showed for two days then he had to fly to OKC to assist with the Youth World Cup. While doing all that, he won the circuits in the Green and Junior Western Riding with Lauren Love’s new horse Invitemeforchocolate. This is the first year for Shaggy to be shown in this event so we were all pretty excited! Plus anyone who knows us realizes that we do not have many open horses because our focus is youth and amateur. PLUS Robin won the Junior Trail Circuit on Vickie Kent’s horse RV Won Good Version. Truly a great show in the open for Robin. Thank you to all the judges at those two shows.
Speaking of RV Won Good Version (Vern), he and his owner Vickie Kent not only won the Circuit Champion in the Select Showmanship but they were High Point Select All-Around at the Big “A”! Vickie has been working on Vern’s lead change and started showing consistently in the Horsemanship there. Not her favorite class to show in without a lead change but I bet she is glad she gave into all of Robin’s encouragement to show. It paid off! Ronnie and his horse RV Radical Zipper, also known as J.R., made some great gains at these two shows. They placed consistently in the pleasure every day and even though J.R. is only three years old, he placed in some of the select trails! This is quite an accomplishment for such a green horse when you are showing Tim Kimura trail patterns! Good job Ronnie! Then we have Ms. Darlene who resides in Alberta. Not an easy transition to take someone from the cool North into the blazing heat of the Southern United States. Even though it was not easy she accomplished some great goals with her horse and ended the show by winning the Novice Amateur Horsemanship.
We did have one new team at this show, Rachel Wetherell and Zips Hidden Resource. After much debate from Harley’s previous owner, Ashley Aikman, she decided that her college studies were taking so much time that Harley would be of more use with someone else that would be able to show him more. Ashley could not have chosen a better person or family to have Harley! What a great first show they had! They accomplished a first in the trail one day and second and thirds in the showmanship and horsemanship classes. They consistently had their names called which is fantastic for a new pair in such stiff competition! Plus Robin started showing in the trail at this circuit and qualified Harley in the Senior Trail for the AQHA World Show! Thirty-four points later and Robin is quite excited to have Harley going to more shows!
Liz, Mayers and Clay all had a good show in their respective classes. They improved daily and had their names called in the classes they specialize in. In the 14 thru 18 classes that is a huge compliment because they were so competitive it was like showing at the youth world for these kids! We are proud of their hard work and accomplishments!
Besides our Select and Youth competitors our amateurs had a successful show as well. Courtney Jetelina and her horse Deelivered, better known to the barn as “dee dee kins” qualified for the AQHA World Show in Amateur Showmanship and Horsemanship. We were very pleased about this because Courtney has been busy and has only been able to attend one other small show this year. Beckie Peskin and Rocked on the Rail won the Novice Amateur Western Riding Circuit at the Stars and Stripes! Pretty exciting since it was their first time to show the class. Leena and Bosco showed great in the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle! They have come a long way in a short time and are really doing great! Stefanie Pullin was smok’n in the horsemanship and gett’n her needed points in the showmanship and western riding. All and all a great show for her and her horse. Then there is little Miss Tiina Volmer and Frog who really did well in the showmanship. I am proud of their progress in this event but they really ended their week with a bang by acquiring circuit championship in the Amateur Equitation. Both shows together were a lot of work but I think everyone in attendance would say it was well worth it.
Last but not Least, Darby Sherrod went to her second horse show with her new horse “Bob”. Their first show was with Robin and I at the Texas Classic but this show in San Antonio was just she and her dad, Brent. They did Fantastic! She was first on three of the four cards in the horsemanship and won the circuit championship at the show! We couldn’t be more proud of her.
We are now off to another one of Mark Harrell’s shows in Athens, Texas. It was suppose to be a quick “small” show before the youth world but we are now taking two trailers so I think it will be quite busy! I will try to update again after the upcoming Youth and Select World shows. We wish you all the Best and hope you and your families are having a great summer!
Cheers ~
