September 2008

Our 2008 AQHYA world show was amazing! Our team received top ten placings in every class we competed in, with the exception of halter, not our strong suit. Incase you were not aware, the American Quarter Horse Youth World Championship Show is a show focusing on youth 18 years old and younger that are competing with their American Quarter Horse. We strongly encourage children to start practicing their horsemanship skills at an early age and because of this, many of our young horsemanship students have met with great success.

Starting off the week, we had three out of four of our girls make the top 20-rail work in youth Horsemanship. In the finals, we had Courtney Chown and Katie Lisabeth. Courtney and her quarter horse, Impulsability, achieved the Reserve AQHYA World Champion and Katie and her horse, Cool To Be Zipin were 6th!

Katie Lisabeth and Cool To Be Zipin

Parris Rice, who is only 14 years old, made quite a splash with her horse Javah Mon in the youth Equitation finals, finishing with a 5th place overall! She also made the top 20-rail work of the Horsemanship riding this 17-hand gelding! This is truly an accomplishment for such a young lady and a large horse. All of her hours of practice and training certainly paid off!

Have ya'll seen those Tim Kimura patterns? They are tough! That is why we are so proud of Katie Lisabeth and her 6th place finish in the Youth Trail. She showed like a true professional!

Kendall Dreyer, after only being part of our youth horsemanship training program for just over a month, was a showman in the arena. She adjusted like no other to what we were teaching her and improved beyond compare when it was all said and done. We are so proud of her accomplishments at the AQHYA World Championship Show.

We cannot end this blog without mentioning Darby Sherrod, Mayers Lindley, and Cailey Dreyer. This was Darby's first year at the World Show and first year out of Novice Youth. She and her horse, Adorabull Larry, did an upstanding job in the Youth showmanship. Probably the best pattern they had all year! They were off to a fantastic pattern in the Trail until they came upon that darn back thru! They had been training so hard on that obstacle…

Courtney Chown and Impulsibility

Speaking of 14 years old, Mayers is still in Novice! She and her horse, Barbie, made it back to the top 30 in the Showmanship! We were so excited! She did a fantastic job; however, she had the wonderful luck of being called back 1st into those finals. Boy, did she handle the pressure! We could have not asked for her to lay down a better pattern.

Unfortunately, Cailey had the toughest show of all as both of her horses were not feeling well and had to gracefully bow out of competition. Don't think for one second that slowed her down though; she cheered on her sister and barn mates with true sportsmanship throughout the entire competition.

We would like to congratulate all of our new college girls as they head off to start yet another exciting chapter in their lives this month. Cailey, Darby, and Katie are off to Texas A&M, while Courtney starts off her years at TCU. We could not be more proud of all of you.

All of our team is in the process of training for what we hope to be an outstanding show at the 2008 Quarter Horse Congress. If you would like to get a close look at some of our secrets to success check out our training DVD "A Roadmap To Success" and learn some new skills that will help propel you on to greatness!
