Select World Show

Wow, Wow, Wow! Two World Champions and one Reserve World Champion all in one week! Ronnie & Vickie Kent have only been working with us for a few months but we really came together as a team at the BAYER Select World Show. Vickie started off the week with a Reserve World Championship in the performance halter geldings and a WORLD Championship in the Showmanship! This is even more special for her because last year at this same horse show she almost lost her horse Version due to colic!

Ronnie busted out the week with a fourth in performance halter mares but the highlight to his week was a WORLD Championship in Trail! He was 2nd going into the prelims and had a great draw in the finals, 15th. There were some very good goes and before he went there were two horses tied for first with a 217 ˝. Ronnie’s mare, I’ll Be RV Radical by Radical Rodder, showed like a true Champ! Not only is she a beautiful mover but she went around with her little ears up – it is such a pleasant and happy picture! They were truly flawless.

Mark Wattier and Jackie Sheridan made a good presentation in the horsemanship. This was Jackie’s first trip to the Select World Show and she laid down a great pattern! She and her horse, Hot Sephyr Image, made it to the top 20 rail work and did an outstanding job! Mark, who was Reserve World Champion last year in this class, made it to the finals again this year with a 1st in the prelims! In the finals he executed one of his best flying lead changes ever and had great rail work! He ended up 8th place overall and we were quite pleased. Mrak and his horse Matt have been top ten 4 years in a row….not many can boast those stats!

AQHYA World Show

This was such a sweet and sorrowful time for us. Many of our girls are off to college and out of youth, so this was there final show with us.

Katie receiving her bronze trophy for her 3rd place finish in Western Horsemanship

Katie Lisabeth had a great show to finish up her youth career! She was third in the Western Horsemanship and fifth in the Western Riding. Kendall Dreyer made the top 30 of the horsemanship and without one tiny mistake, would have made the trail finals! She and Taco are becoming one of the top teams to watch.

Parris Rice on Javah Mon

Parris Rice was a Super Star on her 17 hand gelding, Javah Mon! She started her week with an 8th in horsemanship, a 10th in the trail and finished up her week by being crowned WORLD Champion in the Equitation! Talk about a hard working and focused young lady! We are quite impressed with her and her future. We would love to thank her mother, Carolyn Rice, for giving us the opportunity to coach her over the last two years. As you probably know, Carolyn Rice is a very successful horse trainer from Washington State. In fact, her youth exhibitor won the Western Horsemanship at this years Youth World Show! I call her the Queen of Horsemanship! Carolyn is not only a great coach but a great coach but a great show mom to Parris. It is not any easy transition to be a horse trainer and have your own child showing….Carolyn does it beautifully.

April 2009

Following Tunica, Robin and I were off to Ontario to visit family and do 4 days of clinics. The first of those clinics was held in Orillia at Kelly Simpson's Training Center. We cannot thank the Wilsey Family, Josh, Kelly and Pat enough for the wonderful hospitality they showed us while being there. The Wilsey family owns and operates the most INCREDIBLE bakery, Mariposa Market. I think every meal included muffins, cookies, wonderful breads and cake. It was truly a dream!

For any of you that know Robin and I, you know we love warm weather! Therefore, we were planning for winter weather by taking an entire suitcase of down coats, vests, hats and gloves! Boy were we wrong! It was gorgeous the entire time we were there! Kelly and Josh have a wonderful outdoor arena. It was so big that I gave showmanship lessons all day at one end while Robin taught horsemanship and western riding at the other! It is quite a premier facility.

I felt that when we left we had shared a nice amount of knowledge with everyone and that they learned quite a bit. I hope so because we had a wonderful time with a great group of people and enjoyed every single person we worked with!

Upon leaving Orillia, we headed south to Ilderton, Ontario for a two-day clinic with the Ontario Amateur Quarter Horse Association. We would like to offer a BIG thank you to Elaine Vink and her team of volunteers; Sharon, Corey and Cheri. We would also like to thank the Ontario Amateur Association for inviting Robin to be the clinician at their annual fundraiser for a second time.

Showmanship, Horsemanship, Trail and Western Riding were the highlighted events. The first day, Saturday, was a beautiful day with many spectators as well as participants. Everyone was so friendly, worked hard and asked some great questions! Hopefully it won't be too long before we are in that area again, see everyone and how they are progressing!

March 2009

Boy was it cold at the Oklahoma City Spring Show! Thank goodness for the beautiful new facility there! Angela Dilahunty was our Big Star at that show! She won three out of four judges cards in the Novice Amateur Horsemanship. Little Miss Kendall Dreyer ROCKED the Senior Trail with a second out of 28 and she was right up there in the 14-18 horsemanship consistently placing second and thirds!

Our assistant Mandy Gately started knocking on some doors in the Senior Trail showing Shelly Diggans horse, A Good Favor. It will not be long before the pair is consistently placing at the top of the judge's cards!

Later that month it was off to Tunica Mississippi for Robin, Beckie Peskin and Julia Dreyer. They all thought this show was going to be small and they were going for "practice" but it turned out to be big and competitive! Beckie and her horse, Rocked on the Rail, finished qualifying for the AQHA World Show in Amateur Showmanship and Amateur Horsemanship! She also showed everyone a little of her "Style and Grace" when she tripped and fell down in the showmanship on the last day! Of course while laughing, she picked herself back up and completed the pattern. What a trooper!

Julia and her horse, Cocktails After Five, were BIG winners in the horsemanship. They won it under both judge's cards the last day! Way To Go Julia!
